Tanya Creed
Ceramic design
Hi, my name is Tanya Creed.
I am a ceramic artist based in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. I have a degree in Ceramic design which I started in Limerick school of art and design in 2004, I then did what my tutors referred to at the time as taking the “scenic route” and had a little baby boy in 2007, completing it in 2010 in Crawford school of art and design, with a three year old cheering me on at the finish line.
Working with clay, especially porcelain has always been my favourite medium, although I still love to paint and draw when I get the opportunity.
The majority of my work is slab built or slipcast porcelain, high fired and occasionally adorned in 9ct gold lustres. I draw most inspiration from time at our mobile home in Wexford, where we regularly frequent the many beaches and fishing spots it has to offer, all year round. I also love to spend time in my garden with the herbs and flowers, some of which I imprint into the soft clay to capture their beauty for others to enjoy.
I am a mammy to three budding artists Bobbi, Lexi and Teddy, who are regular visitors to my home studio, whether they are invited or not!
Since the Covid pandemic started in early 2020, I was inspired to make work that connected people all around the world, by giving the gift of home, in a time when we could barely leave our homes. This was when the map piece – also known as Éire mo Chroí – started and has evolved in many ways since.
So that’s enough waffle from me if you have any questions or queries feel free to drop me a line or contact me on any of my social media.
